Our Story

Gotamago

[goh-tahm-ago] a combined noun: “go-cco” (a self-contained printing press) + “tamago” (the Japanese word for egg & a reminder of our perfect impermanence)

Above everything else, we are unconventional storytellers. We believe in deepening friendships and connecting people to each other through their story.

The Gotamago collection features original ink-and-watercolour illustrations designed and printed in Toronto, Canada. Every design has a personal story and is delivered from the heart. Inspired by urbanity, nature, and the simplicity of everyday things, we combine a love for travel and culture with a sense of continual discovery.

Gotamago began as whimsical dalliance and love for all things ink and paper until 2013 when the founder, Lichia Liu, hopped off the corporate ladder to illustrate the world. Gotamago products can now be found online and at retail locations across three continents, in Canada and the US.

Gotamago has been featured in various media outlets, such as the Toronto Star, CBC Radio, Chatelaine, BlogTO, Monocle, and the Kitchn.

In The Studio

Lichia Liu, Founder and Designer

Lichia emigrated from Taiwan to Canada when she was seven. A self-taught illustrator, she would fill her schoolbooks with drawings. It only made sense she would end up in the design world. But six years into her corporate Landscape and Urban Design career, Lichia was on the subway commute one morning and realized she needed more authenticity, autonomy, and artistic exploration in her work. So in 2013, armed with tenacity and wit, Lichia leaped to focus full-time on Gotamago.

As experienced throughout the entire Gotamago collection, Lichia is an urbanist and traveller, an Urban Sketcher, a foodie, and a lover of wordsmithing. You can see more of her personal illustration work here.

Christopher Guest, Head Logistician and Pun-Tester

Christopher is a film editor and producer whose love for the narrative infuses the Gotamago collection with humour and charm. At Gotamago, Christopher takes care of the many logistics of running an international stationery business. He also shoots and edits all the Gotamago short videos. You can find more of his work and original content here.

Christopher and Lichia live in Toronto and are volunteer foster parents for Black Dog Rescue and T.E.A.M. Dog Rescue. Many of their canine companions have been featured in Gotamago designs.
